With enthusiasm, we embark towards the shimmering Humantay Lake. The hike, challenging yet rewarding, leads to a spectacular lakeside vista that is simply breathtaking.
After soaking in the beauty of Humantay Lake, we head back to Soraypampa for a replenishing lunch. The trail then gently guides us to Salkantaypampa, our resting place for the night. As dusk falls, enjoy a warm cup of tea followed by a delicious dinner. The night sky, a tapestry of stars, offers a serene end to an exhilarating day.

The hike is a test of endurance, but the reward is the stunning panorama from the summit at 4620 meters – a moment of true accomplishment.
With the Salkantay Pass behind us, we make our descent to Huayracmachay for lunch. The landscape transitions beautifully from rocky highlands to the verdant cloud forest. This part of the trek is a celebration of nature’s diversity, marked by orchids, hummingbirds, and the gentle rustle of bamboo groves. Our day concludes at the campsite in Collpapampa, nestled in this lush environment.

As we venture towards La Playa through the verdant Santa Teresa valley, our path is dotted with welcoming hamlets. Keep an eye out for the vibrant “Cock of the Rocks,” Peru’s national bird, which may grace us with its presence. Our destination for the day is Lucmabamba, a tranquil haven amidst coffee plantations cradled by the mountains.

Day 5: Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu – Ollantaytambo – Cusco
The culmination of your trek begins before the sun rises over the Andes. Embracing the early morning, you’ll take a bus ride that spirals upward to the enigmatic Machu Picchu, the Lost City of the Incas. As the first light of dawn touches the ancient stones, the mystical city reveals itself, shrouded in a serene and almost otherworldly aura.
Your guide leads you through the heart of Machu Picchu, sharing tales of its sacred temples, intricate stonework, and unveiling the mysteries of this Inca masterpiece. This guided tour is more than an exploration; it’s a journey through time, connecting you to the profound history and spiritual significance of this wonder of the world.
After the guided experience, seize the opportunity to wander freely among the ruins. For those who have secured a spot, the option to climb Huayna Picchu offers an even more spectacular view of the citadel and the surrounding valley, a fitting reward for the adventurous.
With a heart full of memories and a camera full of breathtaking photos, you’ll descend back to Aguas Calientes.
