2-Day Ausangate & Rainbow Mountain Escape

Tour Itinerary

Explore our expertly designed itinerary below, crafted to showcase breathtaking views and provide unique adventures every step of the way.

Day 1: Cusco – Hanchipacha – Ausangate – Ananta

Begin your adventure with a comfortable pick-up from your hotel in Cusco. As we journey towards Hanchipacha, a scenic 3-hour drive awaits, building your anticipation for the trek ahead. Once we arrive, a delicious breakfast, freshly prepared by our talented chef, sets the tone for the day’s adventures.

After breakfast, it’s time for introductions. We present our dedicated team — your experienced tour guide, our adept cook, and the trusty horseman. Their combined expertise ensures a seamless and enriching experience throughout the trek. With introductions made and spirits high, we embark on our journey towards the imposing Ausangate mountain. As we hike, the landscape unfolds, revealing panoramic vistas and alpacas gracefully grazing.

Our path takes us to the Apacheta pass, from where you are rewarded with a breathtaking view of the serene Ausangate lagoons, nestled at the base of the mountain. After soaking in the majestic beauty, we begin our descent towards Ananta. This segment of the trek showcases the region’s indigenous fauna and the towering mountains that define the landscape. By lunchtime, Ananta (4,730m) welcomes you. Here, you can indulge in a delightful meal, after which you have the afternoon free to relax. As night falls, relish a hearty dinner and surrender to the tranquil embrace of our camp for a restful sleep.

Accommodation: Camping at Ananta
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Tea, and Dinner
Hiking: Approx. 5-6 hours, 10 km

Rise and shine at 3 am, for today is the day you witness nature’s masterpiece – the Rainbow Mountain. After an early breakfast, we set out under the starlit sky, making our way uphill. The first leg of our journey culminates at the Warmi Saya pass (4,980m), just in time to witness a mesmerizing sunrise.

The descent from here, a mere 40 minutes, leads to the enchanting Surini lagoon. From the lagoon, a steady 1-hour climb awaits, taking you to the crescendo of this tour – the Rainbow Mountain, standing tall at 5,038 meters. Being early risers, you’ll have the privilege of soaking in its beauty without the usual crowds. Capture memories, listen to tales of its formation from our local guide, and simply be in awe.

For the intrepid among you, an optional trek to the “Red Valley” is available. This additional hour-long journey unveils a landscape dotted with red mountains, each more spectacular than the last. Afterward, we commence our 2-hour descent to Alqatari, where a delectable lunch and celebrations await, marking the end of your trek.

Feeling accomplished, it’s time to bid farewell to our mountain companions – the horseman and the cook. Our private transport will whisk you back to Cusco, ensuring your return by approximately 4 pm, with memories to last a lifetime.

Provided Duffle Bag and Packing Tips

Pack Wisely with Our Essential Packing Tips

We’ll provide a returnable duffle bag during the pre-trek briefing, held 1-2 nights before your tour. Familiarize yourself with the bag, pack efficiently, and get essential trek details, safety guidelines, and updates. It’s a great chance to ask questions, meet fellow trekkers, and prepare for your adventure.

Our Packing Tips:

  • Adhere to the 7 kg weight limit: Keep the weight of your personal items in the duffle bag within the 7 kg limit to maintain a manageable load for the horses.
  • Place non-essential items in the duffle bag: Store items you won’t need during the day, like extra clothes, toiletries, and sleeping bags, in the duffle bag to lighten your day pack.
  • Label your duffle bag: Add a luggage tag or other identification to your duffle bag to prevent mix-ups with other trekkers’ bags.
