Huaraz – Vicos – Quebrada Pacharuri – Laguna Rocotuyoc – Laguna Congelada – Huaraz
The adventure begins with an early morning pick-up from your accommodation in Huaraz (3,100m / 10,170 ft). A scenic drive takes you north toward the quaint Andean town of Marcará, where we turn east and begin ascending into the lands of the Vicos Community, located at the foothills of the majestic Cordillera Blanca.
The journey offers captivating views of the surrounding valleys and mountains as we enter the Huascarán National Park. Our first stop is in the Quebrada Pacharuri, a magical valley known for its cascading waterfalls of icy water and the Llamaruri Rock Paintings, where ancient depictions of Andean culture can be observed. Take time to appreciate the unique blend of natural and cultural heritage this area has to offer.
Continuing with our vehicle, we ascend further to reach Laguna Rocotuyoc (4,300m / 14,107 ft). This stunning turquoise lake, surrounded by rugged peaks, serves as a perfect vantage point to admire the pristine beauty of the Andes. After a brief pause to take photos and acclimatize, we begin a gentle, mostly flat hike along the valley.
Our trail leads to the enchanting Laguna Congelada (4,600m / 15,091 ft), a glacial lake at the foot of the imposing glacier. The lagoon is aptly named for its floating chunks of ice, offering a surreal and otherworldly atmosphere. Spend time exploring the area, taking photos, and soaking in the serene beauty of this remote alpine paradise.
After enjoying the unforgettable sights of Laguna Congelada, we retrace our steps back to Laguna Rocotuyoc, where our private transport awaits. Relax as we descend back to Huaraz, arriving in the late afternoon with memories of this incredible adventure.
